This is the second time I have been an artist in residence at Yayasan Bali Purnati. Because many artists and writers have asked me about my experience here, I wanted to share some photos and information about this inspiring oasis.

Bali Purnati is located in Batuan, in the Gianyar region of Bali, about 20 minutes outside of Ubud. The property is expansive, beautiful, inspiring, and lush. There are four lumbungs to stay in, each with a second and third floor that can house up to two people per room. Rooms are spacious with private bathrooms. From the second I arrived here on my first stay, I felt completely at home.

The top floors feature high lofted ceilings and showers in the bathrooms, while the middle floors feature outside terraces and bathtubs in the bathroom. Rooms are complete with air conditioning and luxurious beds with mosquito nets too.

As a resident, you pay a nominal daily fee for room and board, which includes three meals a day. Residents enjoy their meals outdoors in the ground floor of the lumbung, an open-air patio space where you can also work and relax. You can make your own schedule and work with Purnati staff to set up a working space on the property, as desired. There is a wonderful pavilion with an open-air second floor, a work space by a river and waterfall, and other inspiring nooks located all over.

Simply put, Bali Purnati is inspiring and it cultivates creativity. Bali itself is a wonderful destination, and at Purnati, the residency cannot get much better, with a beautiful property, private rooms, delicious food, and and the friendliest and most helpful staff. I cannot say enough things about how great it is. I have been here twice in the past three years, working on two very different projects, and both stays were so productive. Both times I have left, I look forward to returning.
